Liverpool vs Chelsea Preview 28/08/2021

We have a tasty Premier League clash to enjoy on Saturday, with title rivals Liverpool v Chelsea clashing at Anfield.

Both sides have won their opening two matches this season, scoring five goals apiece while keeping back-to-back clean sheets.

With nothing to separate the teams so far, Saturday’s clash is destined to be a closely-fought battle between two top sides.

Liverpool crushed Norwich 3-0 on the opening weekend, with Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah grabbing the goals.

Jurgen Klopp’s side then beat Burnley 2-0 last weekend. Jota opened the scoring once again, with Sadio Mané completing the victory.

The Reds enjoyed 67% possession against Burnley at Anfield, racking up a whopping 27 shots – nine of which were on target.

Not only have Liverpool won each of their last seven Premier League games, but they are also unbeaten in their previous 12.

It is also worth pointing out that Klopp’s men head into Saturday’s clash on the back of four consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League.

On the flip side, Chelsea claimed an easy 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace on the opening weekend thanks to goals from Marcos Alonso, Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah.

Last time out, the Blues cruised past Arsenal – sealing a comfortable 2-0 win at the Emirate Stadium on Sunday. The returning Romelu Lukaku netted on his second debut for the Blues, while Reece James bagged a goal and an assist.

Thomas Tuchel’s side saw 65% of the ball against the Gunners and also chalked up 22 attempts, managing five on target. When you look at the bigger picture, Chelsea have only lost three of their previous 20 Premier League matches.

With Lukaku back at Stamford Bridge, the Blues will be confident of extending their impressive record under Tuchel.

Head-to-head: Liverpool v Chelsea both picked up away wins in this fixture last season, with Liverpool winning 2-0 in London and Chelsea winning 1-0 on Merseyside.

The Reds have enjoyed facing the Blues in recent times, though. Chelsea have won just two of their last eight meetings with Liverpool, while Klopp’s men have sealed four wins in that time and of which came down to a draw.

Team news: Fabinho, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all in contention to return to Liverpool’s starting XI this weekend. There are no injury worries elsewhere in Klopp’s squad.

As for Chelsea, Christian Pulisic could return after missing the previous game due to Covid. However, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is sidelined.

Although Chelsea have looked sharp in the opening stages of the new campaign, Liverpool’s recent record against the Blues is difficult to ignore.

With home advantage on their side, oddsonafrica predicts that Liverpool will secure a clean-sheet victory over Chelsea at Anfield and over 2.5 goals to be scored in the game, why Romelu Lukaku to score at Anfield.
